How to Install Enclosed Blinds on French Doors
Share |

Enclosed blinds are a great addition to French doors. They reduce the amount of drag and swing encountered with traditional window blinds or curtains as well as effectively block and insulate against direct sunlight. Enclosed blinds also reduce possible injury or danger to kids or pets. Above all, enclosed blinds look great!

Before you get started, here is a list of what you’ll need:

  • Enclosed Blinds Kit(s)
  • Flat Head Screwdriver
  • Phillips Head Screwdriver
  • Glass Cleaning Supplies
  • With that, follow the simple steps below to install enclosed blinds on your French doors:

    Step #1:
    • Clean the glass on your enclosed blinds before installation (there will be dust and possibly adhesive residue on the glass which is much more easily cleaned before installing the blinds).
    Step #2:
    • Remove any spacers or placeholders impeding the movement of the blinds.
    Step #3:
    • Remove the screw covers from the existing windows on the French doors (if these don’t pop out easily by hand or with a flat head screw driver, use a wood screw to grip and remove).
    • Carefully screw the wood screw into the spacer (don’t worry about damaging the spacer as the area will be covered by the new enclosed blinds).
    Step #4:
    • Partially unscrew the screws on the existing window frame on the top corners and bottom/side corners, just enough to release a bit of tension so the window frame can be pulled out slightly (1/8 to 1/4 inch).
    Step #5:
    • If spacers were provided in your kit, insert the spacers to keep the existing frame pulled out and insert metal brackets to hold the enclosed blind unit to the top of the window.
    Step #6:
    • Install the enclosed blind unit on the top brackets and align the sides.
    Step #7:
    • Use the spacers or a flat head screw driver to pull the existing window frame slightly and push the side tabs into place (under the existing window frame).
    Step #8:
    • Test the stability of the enclosed blind unit and make sure all the brackets and tabs are securely in place.

You’ve now successfully installed enclosed blinds on your French doors!
